Inauguration of the West Normandy Marine Energy stand
16 April 2012:
This afternoon, West Normandy Marine Energy (a Public-Local Company) took part in Europe's most important wind power show for the first time, and celebrated the inauguration of its stand in the presence of the major players in the Basse Normandie MRE initiative.
Basse Normandie companies, environmental press journalists and trade show visitors gathered for this landmark occasion.
The inaugural speech was given by Laurent Beauvais, President of the Basse Normandie region, Jean-François Le Grand, President of the General Council of La Manche and André Rouxel, Mayor of Tourlaville and Premier Vice-President of the Cherbourg Urban Programme. The speech expressed their common enthusiasm for this new industrial adventure!
Unity
“We have fulfilled our role of 'Assembler', preparing all the necessary prerequisites to green-light this initiative. We now have to unite all our efforts for this project that means so much to the Atlantic coast”, stated Laurent Beauvais, President of the Basse Normandie region. He went on: “This is a great moment for us. Today, the development of our territories has received a huge boost”.
Synergy
The President of the General Council praised “the tight cooperation between the three local groups”. “There has been a convergence of interests and a united vision throughout the process”. However, this is just the beginning. “We must now bring together all our strengths: from industry, from training structures and from R&D. In other words, we must create a synergy from our different energies - no pun intended - for the new industrial adventure now taking shape”.
Those present included: EDF EN Energies Nouvelles (M. Lemarquis), Alstom (M. Serrie), PNA (Ports Normands Associés), Dong Energy.
Basse-Normandie at EWEA
With a view to the development of Marine Renewable Energy in the region, the Basse-Normandie region, La Manche department, and Cherbourg Urban Programme will have a stand at the main European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) show, accompanying 15 companies and research institutes: CMN, PNA, CHANTIERS ALLAIS, EFINOR, ESITC CAEN, CCI CAEN, CCI CHERBOURG, CRISMAT, LCMT, LA MIRIADE, SOTRABAN, LUSAC, CNRT Matériaux, CORRODYS et LOMC.
Recent developments have added to the significance of this presence at the show. On Friday 6 April, the French state granted three wind farm marine zones to the EDF-Alstom consortium: good news for the Basse-Normandie region, La Manche department, and Cherbourg Urban Programme, since this implies the creation of two Alstom plants at Cherbourg.
This grant is a reward for the efforts of local groups, companies and research centres in Basse-Normandie. Since 2010, Basse-Normandie has been committed to the construction of MRE sources on its territories and to offering diverse opportunities to companies. A new phase has now begun : the development of those sources. This phase involves the presence of Basse-Normandie at European trade shows and events, such as EWEA.
